William Consovoy was an eminent conservative lawyer died on Monday night from brain cancer. Two years ago, he was diagnosed. He was diagnosed with the disease in October last year.

Linda Whalen, his mother, stated that he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2020. He had been suffering from the disease for a prolonged time. Glioblastoma, also known as grade IV, is a rapidly-growing and aggressive brain cancer.

Who Was William Consovoy?

William Consovoy was an eminent conservative lawyer, William Spencer Consovoy was a Plainfield, New Jersey native who grew up in Florham park, New Jersey. His grandfather was a Franklin Township mayor. He worked alongside former Justice Clarence Thomas while he was in law school.

Clients included the Republican National Committee as well as Republican state officials. He was a tireless fighter in many cases, always supporting justice for all, and was loved by his family, friends and loved ones.

He fought for many conservative causes throughout his legal career. Consovoy McCarthy, PLLC represented many states and local governments. They represented individuals and organizations seeking fair and equitable treatment.

He defended President Donald J. Trump against congressional demands for his tax returns. Students for Fair Admissions challenged Harvard College’s practices in a second case.

He was previously a partner in Wiley Rein before establishing his own company. He was also a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas while at Wiley Rein. He co-founded Consovoy McCarthy PLLC in 2014 after he left Wiley Rein.


He was also the first George Mason law student to be appointed as a clerk on the Supreme Court. He was a model for future GMU Law students. People who knew him claim that his success made the university a hothouse for conservative legal thinking.

He was also known for his formidable legal intellect, and his youth believed him to be an influence on his philosophical and legal adversaries. 

Consovoy was passionate about politics, and not only his court work. Consovoy loved Bruce Springsteen and the Philadelphia Eagles. He lobbied against, among other things, the Voting Rights Amendment. He co-founded Arlington, Virginia in 2014 which was based on Consovy. It was a popular film in Republican circles.
