Black Stalin died at his home on the 28th of December 2022 at 9:45. He was 81 years. Pastry, his wife, said that he was taken to San Fernando General Hospital where he received regular treatment.

Who Was Black Stalin?

Black Stalin was born in San Fernando on 24 September 1941. His real name was Leroy Calliste. He was a keen musician since childhood. He joined the legendary calypsonian Lord Kitchener’s Calypso Revue tent in 1967 and reached the finals at the Calypso Monarch competition. He won the title Calypso Monarch in 1979 with his classics, “Caribbean Man”, and “Play One.”


Stalin was ecstatic after this accomplishment and continued his journey to success singing many songs, including Wait Dorothy Wait, Black Man Feelin’ To Party, Mr. Panmaker and In Times. Staling signed with Barbadian Eddy Grant’s Ice Records label in the mid-90s and released several albums, including Message to Sundar and Rebellion. Stalin was crowned Calypso King of the World in 1999, and he became the king of Calypso sing.
