Director Matt Reeves revealed to MovieMaker that the real-life Zodiac Killer was used as inspiration for Riddler’s character. He explained, “The premise of the movie is that Riddler takes on almost a Zodiac Killer-like persona and begins killing prominent figures in Gotham city – those supposedly legitimate figures such as the mayor.” From there, things take an exponential turn.”

Reeves revealed to Empire magazine that Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader was inspired by Nirvana’s lead singer Kurt Cobain. He explained, “When writing, I listen to music – and while writing the first act, Nirvana’s ‘Something In

The Way’ came on and inspired me – rather than making Bruce Wayne look like other versions we’ve seen before, there’s another version who had gone through great tragedy and become a recluse – like Gus Van Sant’s Last Days.”

The cast of The Batman includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Real, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot. The movie is set to hit theatres in the United Kingdom on March 4, 2022.
