The Sephora at Kohl’s location allows customers to have easy access to a wide range of best-selling brands and products in one convenient place. It’s been a bright spot for Kohl’s and has driven “extraordinary growth” in the beauty business.

Sephora announced the partnership in August and has now added more than a million customers to Kohl’s. Although the goal of this partnership is not met, it’s a solid start.

These two companies collaborated to create a better shopping experience for Sephora customers. It includes adding a number of premium beauty brands to Kohl’s. This also expands the product range.

In addition, Sephora will work with Kohl’s to create curated collections for the retailer. These collections will include items from Sephora’s private label, the Sephora Collection, as well as a variety of makeup brands.

Kohl’s reported a 3.4% increase of SG&A in the second quarter as a result. The overall revenue fell 8.1%. This is a relatively small decrease compared with the 7.7% drop in comparable sales. But, it noted that the company was seeing strong results in every category.

Adding six new prestige beauty brands

Sephora at Kohl’s has added six prestige brands to their selection for spring. These include Murad Cosmetics, Living Proof, Voluspa Charlotte Tilbury and NARS as well Clarins.

The new brands join existing prestige beauty brands such as Clinique, Kiehl’s, and Nars, all of which will continue to be sold at Kohl’s. The total of 125 brands sold in Sephora by Kohl’s now includes these six new additions.

Every Sephora Kohl’s will have a specially curated collection of premium brands within a 2500-square foot space. The shops will also include a test and discovery area as well personalized beauty consultations by Sephora-trained Beauty Advisors.

While the Sephora at Kohl’s concept is still relatively new, the stores have already helped drive impressive results for Kohl’s. They have seen a rise in cross-category shopping and customers coming from diverse backgrounds, according to the company.

Sephora’s Kohl’s store locations will reach 850 stores by 2023. There are 400 more Sephora stores planned for the year than the retailer is planning to add.

JCPenney partnership

Sephora and Kohl’s announced a new partnership. Kohl’s claims that their plans to open up to 850 Sephora retail shops within Kohl’s stores between 2023 and 2023 will boost Kohl’s bottom line by more than $1B.

Each shop is 2,500 sq. ft. and offers full-line Sephora products. They will be located in 200 Kohl’s locations, with plans to expand to 400 more by the end of the year.

Sephora is partnering with popular retailer to help reestablish its presence in the suburbs. The shop-in shops complement the company’s mall-based stores.

There are currently 650 Sephora stores in Penneys’s stores. Many stores in Penney’s were shuttered during the Pandemic. A few of them have since reopened. Sephora offered a number of options to JC Penney’s April bankruptcy filing.

One option was to terminate its agreement with Penney early. In response, Penney argued that Sephora tried to terminate its contract before the pandemic hit, despite being in full compliance. Sephora denied the claim.

A second option is to open mini Sephora stores in select Target or Kohl’s locations. This would be similar to the mini Starbucks found in certain Target stores.
