 Janis Hunter Gaye Died: Janis Hunter, a renowned stylist, director, novelist, manager and author, who was the second wife of Motown legend Marvin Gaye, and the subject of many of his songs. She died Saturday, December 3 at her Rhode Island home. She was 66 years of age. Nona Gaye stated, “I am deeply sorry for the loss of Janis Gaye, my mother.” She was the most important woman in my life, and many others. Jan was a woman I will never forget once you meet her. Every word she spoke was from her heart.  She will not be able to see me again in this lifetime, but I know she is in heaven with my dad and a spokesperson for our cause in spirit.

Who Was Janis Hunter Gaye?  

Janis Gaye is the second wife to Marvin Gaye, a well-known music artist. Marvin and her had two children, Nona Gaye and Frankie Gaye. Janis was a stylist and director as well as a novelist. She was the daughter to Slim Gaillard’s daughter, who is best known for his hit “Flat Foot Floogie (With a Floy Floy)”.

Marvin Gaye was the inspiration for her meeting with him. It all started during a 1973 session recording his album “Let’s Get it On”. When she was only 17 years old, Ed Townsend introduced them. He was 34 at the time. Gaye wrote the song “Jan” for Gaye to celebrate her future. It was included in “Marvin Gaye Live!” as well as “I Want You”, which were released in 1974 and 1976, respectively. In tribute to his wife, Gaye’s 1977 disco “Got to Give It Up” reached No.1 on Billboard Hot charts.

Janis Hunter Gaye passed away on Saturday at her home in Rhode Island, at age 66, died on  last Saturday 3/12. Shawnn Monteiro (sister), and Mark Gaillard, (brother), are all grieving for Janis. Her family is still trying to determine the cause of Janis’ death, but she leaves behind her grandson Nolan Pentz. Janis Hunter Gaye passed away on Saturday at her home in Rhode Island. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.
