Ben Stokes, an all-rounder named Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World twice and winner of both ICC Award for Best Men’s Cricketer and BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2019, was expected to be the top bid among hundreds of players competing.

However, Sam Curran was ultimately purchased by Punjab Kings for 1,850 lakh – the highest bid in IPL history. Curran plays as a left-handed all-rounder with medium-fast bowling.

Welcome the Arrival of New Coaches

Other squads also experienced changes, with Chennai Super Kings replacing bowling coach L. Balaji with Dwayne Bravo and Kolkata Knight Riders appointing Chandrakant Pandit as head coach and Ryan ten Doeschate as fielding coach.

In 2019, Sunrisers Hyderabad promoted batting coach Brian Lara to head coach after parting ways with Tom Moody, who had been the team’s captain between 2013 and 2019. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants elevated team mentor Gautam Gambhir from global mentor to global coach.

Impact Players
The 2023 season of the Indian Premier League will introduce a new rule regarding Impact Players. The team captain can select this substitute player from four options, all with batting and bowling skills.

The Impact Player can be introduced into the game before or after an over, as long as there are less than four overseas players in each team’s XI. One somewhat restrictive requirement is that they must be Indian.

The Impact Player adds a tactical dimension to the game without altering who can bat. If a bowling team brings in their Impact Player, they are allowed four overs each.

The IPL has always had a limit of four overseas players per team since its founding, so this new rule may be an attempt by officials to remain compliant with regulations.
