Sione Veikoso was a three star high school recruit and played for Arizona State in the 2021 season. He then transferred to BYU. He played in just one game throughout his college career. Before transferring to BYU he was on a two-year mission in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
According to BYU he was due to fly back to university next week. His family has yet to respond to the news about his death. To help with funeral expenses, the school set up a GoFundMe account. So far, they have raised $8,500 through 200 donors.
Veikoso was a well-known player on the BYU football team. His cousin called him a “gentle giant”. Although nobody else was hurt, a firefighter arrived and discovered several people underneath the rubble. Mini excavators were used in several rescue attempts.
