  Chris Beard, the head coach of University of Texas at Austin basketball coach Chris Beard arrested and charged for a third-degree felonious assault, On Monday,  According to Austin Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance on the 1900 block Vista Lane at 12:15 AM local time. Beard was taken into custody.

Monday night, Beard was arrested and the university announced that he had been suspended. He has been charged with assaulting his family member. He could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Austin police were called to investigate after a woman claimed she was assaulted and raped by Beard at his Tarrytown residence. Officers were told by the woman that Beard had strangled her and attacked her.

Beard was arrested and placed under protective orders. Beard must stay at least 200 yards from the victim’s house. Beard was also forbidden from possessing a gun. The Austin American-Statesman obtained a warrant of arrest for the charges and detailed the incident. Beard returned from work after a verbal altercation which turned into a physical fight.

Texas University Suspended Chris Beard Without Pay

The school released a statement saying that it takes interpersonal violence in the community seriously. “Given all information, the University has suspended Chris Beard as Men’s Basketball head coach and will withhold his salary until further notice.” Assistant Head Coach Rodney Terry will be acting as head coach in tonight’s match against Rice. According to court records, Beard was taken into custody by police and his bail was set at $10,000.

A protective order is in effect until February 10, 2023. It prohibits Beard from being within 200 feet of the woman or the house where the 9-1-1 call was made. Beard is not permitted to carry a firearm during this time. Beard can communicate with the complainant, but he is strictly forbidden from intimidating or threatening him.

The report states that Christopher was interviewed on the scene and said that he had audio recordings from the incident in which he wasn’t the primary aggressor. Christopher was then asked if he would share the audio recordings, which he replied no.

Texas drafted Beard in 2021 from Texas Tech, a Big 12 rival. Beard rose to the top of the coaching ranks after his brief stint with Little Rock’s Red Raiders. Beard was 30-5 in his first season at Little Rock.

He advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Beard then spent five seasons at Texas Tech, where he went 112-55, and competed in the national championship in 2019. Beard, a former Longhorns team manger under Tom Penders has had a quick start at his alma mater. Texas won 22 games in the NCAA Tournament, and Texas was a finalist in the NCAA Tournament. Texas is currently 7-1 in the 2022/23 campaign. It has been as high as No. 2 in the AP Top 25.
