Who Was Bhairon Singh Rathore?
Bhairon Singh, who was also known as the Hero of the battle, was an integral part of that battle. Suniel Shriki, who portrayed him in “Border”, showed his bravery during the battle. He was 81 years old when he died in AIIMS, Jodhpur. All ranks and the DG BSF condole the death of Naik (Retd.) Bhairon Sing, the hero of The Longewala Battle in the 1971 War. Sawai Singh, his son, said that his father was in poor health since 2 days before the 51st Anniversary of the war. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Jodhpur on 14 December. His limbs were affected by paralysis, he said.
According to doctors, Bhairon Sinh may have suffered a stroke. He was admitted to ICU several times over the past days. He also said that the Rathore family resides in Solankiatala Village, which is approximately 100 KM from Jodhpur. According to the BSF spokesperson, his body will be transported to a BSF training centre in Jodhpur for a wreath-laying ceremony. He will then be cremated at his village, with all military honors. He was also awarded the Sena Medal in 1972 after the battle for his gallant actions. In 1987, Bhairon Singh Rathore was discharged from the service of a Naik.
